I finally cast on for the Bird’s Nest Stole from the book Folk Shawls. This is the first lace project I bought yarn for, but I could never bring myself to cast on for it. I think it is the sheer size of the thing that always put me off- 166 rows of 346 stiches. It will never get bigger, but it won’t get smaller either.
I figure if I cast on now and do a few rows a day I may get finished this summer. Let me tell you they are loooong rows and I haven’t even got to the lace yet.

Well I’m back from a week’s vacation that I paired with the long holiday weekend. The family took a little boating excursion from Havestraw, NY down to Red Bank, NJ for 4 nights. This picture was taken as we traveled down the Hudson River just north of the GWB. Over the 4 days I finished the second repeat of 62 rows. Yay! Note the new reading glasses so I can see the small stitches

I finally got a chance to take pictures of both Vkandis and Mystic Waters. They both are in 6/2 weaver’s cotton on US size 4 needles.

I admit, I started this before the official kick of, but I’m no where near the 40% mark, heck, barely at the 5% mark, if that. It is the Wedding Ring Shawl from Heirloom Knitting.Â
I’m using Yarn Place’s Angel in the Dusty Rose on US0 needles. I’ve finished the first repeat of the center square. I have 4 more full repeats to go with a 5th of only 2/3rds of the rows.Â
I’m not deluded enough to think I can finish the entire shawl during this summer, but hope to at least get the center done and the borders picked up. We’ll see….
