What I’ve done in the last weeks

Hello,

since my last post I only finished the Anniversary Mystery Shawl from Goddessknits.

Anniversary Mystery Shawl from Goddessknits

I needed 1480 m yarn for it.

I haven’t finished three projects:

First the Vkanis Sunlord from MMario. I’m knitting this shawl as doily with very thin yarn.

Vkandis Sunlord from MMario as doily

Till now I used 1250 m yarn for it. I’m now on round 223 of 320 plus an edging.

Then I’m knitting the Secret of the stole 3 from Nauticalknitter.

Secret of the stole 3 from Nauticalknitter

I’m now at the beginning of hint 6 and used 750 m yarn for it.

And at least but not last I’m testknitting the Klabauter Mystery from Monika Eckert. I have nearly finished it and used 980 m yarn till now. I only can show it until clue 2, because it’s a mystery.

Cast-on on Monday:

Hemlock Ring Blanket in Cascade Eco-Wool

I hit the feather-and-fan section yesterday.  I’m already almost 3 repeats past where I was when I took this photo.

(The specs, for those of you playing along at home: Hemlock Ring Blanket, as adapted by Jared Flood of BrooklynTweed; Cascade Eco-Wool; size 10 needles)

I love this pattern.  I think it’s going to be link Pringles–you can’t have just one.

Lyra

No Gravatar

This was a project originally started for Ravelympics, but it didn’t get finished in time. I knitted this project everywhere I went, trying to finish, but oh, well (18 days). Unfortunately, theres a bit of an odd stain on a couple of parts of this table topper. I tried an Oxyclean bath, but there’s still splotches on it. (does that count as a tragedy?)

This is knit w/ a little more than 2 balls of DMC Cordonnet thread #100 using US000 needles.

lyra square

Btw–the pattern is Lyra, by Herbert Niebling– can be purchased from Lacis in Berkeley. It’ a fun knit. I highly recommend it. Total yardage? 991yds.

Goldregen Doily/Tabletopper

Habu Indigo Dyed Silk

This is a sort of a doily/table topper from an old Burda magazine ( E 903) called “Goldregen” It’s another Niebling pattern.  The thread I’m using is a Habu orgazine degummed indigo dyed Silk, 1,400 yards/2 ounces. I’m using US 0000 needles from Lacis in Berkley CA and I’m on row 48. You can’t really see the pattern yet but I will try to post a better picture once there is enough to go onto circular needles.  If anyone is thinking of getting some of this thread, you might want to consider paying the extra money to have it wound onto a cone. My sister bought me this beautiful thread at a Stiches West so no cone option available at that time, but it was very difficult to wind this into a single ball and I had to break it half way because of a tangle. I’ve heard from others that they were unable to wind it at all so had to throw out the entire lot.  It has been suggested that putting the swift on it’s side (like a ferris wheel) helps to unwind the skein smoothly so I may try that on my second skein. That’s right. I have two of them. In order to keep the silk from unwinding once it was in a ball, I have each encased in the leg of a cast-off pair of nylon ankle socks.  That holds the ball of silk enough so I can unwind enough thread to use as I knit without getting tangled up.  This silk has a slightly “crisp” feel to it but is still very slippery. Dropping a stitch using this would be bad. Very very bad.

Testing a new lace book - a small lace project

No Gravatar

When looking at patterns on ravelry, I fell in love with one of the patterns by Herbert Neilbling and wanted to get it. According to their links it was available in three different books - all in foreign languages and two of which I couldn’t find. The remaining book, Knitting Lace Designs of the “Modern: Mode, Bk. 2, by Naoko Ichida was the only one I could find (I bought it from Lacis) which is in Japanese. It did come with a translation of the different stitches but I needed a test to see if I could indeed handle the bigger pattern by trying a smaller, simpler one first.  This was the result.

A small lace doilie (sp?)

The answer to my question is yes so now I will have to try the big one and be a little more careful with the pattern itself.  Oh yes, I started and finished this while watching the olympics yesterday.
