Quantity Competitons - and their Winners (updated)

Drum roll please.

Ladies and Gentlemen, as we promised before the Summer Season began,  today we announce the results of our Quantity Competitions.

For the Competition for the Most Small Items Knit (in which we defined "Small Item" to mean an item that took at least 350 and no more than 700 yards to complete), we had 14 original competitors.  Some of them were overcome by startitis, and thus did not record any finished objects, having been buried under a flurry of lacy goodness to the point where they just couldn’t choose one thing.  (I so recognize this condition!!)  Others were lured by the temptations of lace in other sizes, and found themselves finishing things that were either too large or too small to qualify for this competition.  And, unfortunately, some were beset by life, and had to withdraw from the competition.

Of the remaining five, one was sidetracked by her prodigious output for the yardage competition.  None-the-less, she registered a solid 6 items.  Had she been allowed to count her yardage related entries for both projects, that number would have been higher…

Our runner up, with 10 items was marinemom (if only those dishcloths had been bigger, she’d have tied for first!).

And the winner, with 12 documented finished items in the small lace category?

nolaboard! Congratulations nolaboard!  You’ve won….

a $50.00 Gift Certificate from

Next up in this awards "ceremony,"  the heated competition for the most yards knit of yarn into lace in a single season.  We started the season with 37 hopefuls.  Some of them decided to stick to a single competition, instead of trying to work on high yardage counts AND churning out small items whose yardage would not count in this competition.  Others found themselves lured away by cables, or by textured socks.  And some, alas, were also beset by life. In the end, we have an even dozen competitors.

tinker came in third, with an impressive 6,893 yards of yarn converted into lace.

littlelena is our runner up.  She managed to knit 8,246 yards of yarn into lace.  For this amazing feat, she wins the second place prize of a kit for the delicate silk scarf "Whisp of Summer" .

and finally, our winner , who will be enjoying a

$50.00 gift certificate for

for having knit 11,855 yards of yarn into lace …. (yes, that’s eleven thousand , eight hundred fifty five yards of yarn) …. is

thislittlepiggyknits!!

Congratulations! to our winners!

We hope you’ll post about what you’ve bought with your winnings!

The judged awards will take a bit more time.  We seem to still be collecting nominations, and then we have to give our esteemed panel of judges time to consider the nominees.

While we wait for the Judge’s decisions….— RAFFLES.

And…. a chance to vote for your favorite of the Viewers Choice Nominees!

Oh…. finally, for the record,  Here are the final rankings for all competitors posting numbers for these Competitions:

This has been interesting. To keep track of lace work for a summer. Well, I guess I was faster and more prolific in my brain than in actuality. But I did manage to polish off 7193yds of yarn/thread for 6 finished projects and 2 unfinished projects.

1260.0 yards peacock
470.0 yards swallowtail
2461.0 yards rosa romantic
275.4 yards  erbstullgrund
455.4 yards hyrna
991.2 yards  lyra
800yds shawl (unfinished)
300yds hey teach (unfinished)

= 7193 yds total

small projects? I thought I’d have time this summer to whip up xmas ornaments (non-stars) but that just didn’t happen. Ah, well.

Happy Fall, everyone!

eta: I was supposed to post pics, but I can’t seem to find all the projects (stashed away etc.)…so, you’ll have to go check out my flickr file here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/20247079@N00/

And the Prize Processing Goes forward…

No Gravatar

Greetings one and all.

I’m sitting here with my spreadsheets and all the entry forms, making sure that I have all of the entries in, and that my data is accurate.  For clarification, and so that I really do award the prizes to the competition winners, I’d like to verify the following things:

The following folks once stated that they intended to participate in the Most Small Items Knit competition. Those whose names are bolded are folks from whom I have Final Submissions (and indeed other supporting data).  The rest of you are folks for whom I have no competition entry data.  If you did want to compete, you have until Sunday, September 28 at noon CST to get your posts up and your competition forms in. UPDATE: Those whose withdrawals I’ve received are stricken out (so you can confirm I got your messages)

I also have littlelena and KnatteringKnitter who didn’t originally sign up for that competition, but for whom I have yardage information.

If you intended to compete, NOW is the time to get that information to us!

Please be sure to post a summing up post (with pictures of all the goodies) and a total count (yardage or number of small (e.g.350-700 yds) items)), and to include a link to that post in your final competition submission.

The end my friend

First of all I want to say how much I have enjoyed the Summer of Lace. It has been really great and I accomplished more than I could have imagined! I have learned so much about lace knitting, what I like and what I don’t, patterns and yarn. I have learned how to push through and finish something even when I really don’t want to. I was able to use up some of the yarn in my stash, especially for the Bird’s Nest Stole, which had been in there over five years.

I would also like to thank everyone for the nice comments left about my projects. I’m sorry if I did not get back to you. Barbie did end up having a fabulous wedding and orders from all her friends have been pouring in. My daughter has taken up knitting and is keeping with it. She has big dreams of the things she can make.

I was so glad when I finished my final lace project, so I was surprised to find myself seeing so many more lace things I want to knit.

In the end I had a final total of 21 projects - 5 shawls, 4 stoles (Mystery Stole 4 and Secret of the Stole 3 are not complete), 4 pairs socks, 2 scarves, 1 bag and 5 misc. items for a total of 8,246 yards. Everything is pictured above except the items I have already given away.

Thanks again to everyone for their encouragement, it has been a productive summer.

Spring Forward Socks, Shetland Triangle shawl, Lacy Hair Tamers, Twilight Lace Wrap, Comfort Shetland Triangle, Microspun Cuffs, Vine Lace Socks, Generations Purse, Seaweed Socks, Swallowtail, Bird’s Nest Stole, Mystery Stole 4, Secret of the Stole 3, Heartland Lace Shawl, Baby Hat, Flower Basket Shawl, Campanula Mitts, Tilting Blocks Scarf, Eyelet Rib Socks, Red Scarf Project, Barbie Wedding Dress.

I finished it just in time! I also added another 1000 yads since the last time I posted, bringing to a little over 1600 yds.

I am really glad I had the time to get these finished. I didn’t want any unfinished lace sitting around. I’m ready to start holiday knitting! These are Eyelet rib socks in Shepherd Sock, color Mother Lode 284 yds. I’ll be back tomorrow for my final wrap-up.

The Finish Line!

No Gravatar

Thank goodness the deadline wasn’t 9/21! I finished my final project (Icarus) that evening and it’s blocking now.

My final report is:

441 yds knit on the “Wrapped in Care shawl” Wrapped in care shawl

540 yds knit on the “Juliet”

Juliet

854 yds knit on “Icarus”

Icarus

259 yds knit on “Noro Zetor Shawl”

Noro zetor

50 yds knit on “Frill” (only 50 yds worth of this was knit during Seasons Of Lace)

Frill

123 yds on “shibui Swallowtail”

shibui swallowtail

For a grand total of 2267 yds knit all together. I’ve seen some of the beautiful work that’s been produced here and I hold out no hope whatsoever that I am even *near* the running for most yards knit. :) Ahhh I had such hopes and dreams when I started :)

Thanks for the fun, inspiration and deadlines that made me accomplish what I did! Thanks especially to the Seasons of Lace mavens (Alyse, Helen and Maria) for all their hard work!

What I’ve done in the last weeks

No Gravatar

Hello,

since my last post I only finished the Anniversary Mystery Shawl from Goddessknits.

Anniversary Mystery Shawl from Goddessknits

I needed 1480 m yarn for it.

I haven’t finished three projects:

First the Vkanis Sunlord from MMario. I’m knitting this shawl as doily with very thin yarn.

Vkandis Sunlord from MMario as doily

Till now I used 1250 m yarn for it. I’m now on round 223 of 320 plus an edging.

Then I’m knitting the Secret of the stole 3 from Nauticalknitter.

Secret of the stole 3 from Nauticalknitter

I’m now at the beginning of hint 6 and used 750 m yarn for it.

And at least but not last I’m testknitting the Klabauter Mystery from Monika Eckert. I have nearly finished it and used 980 m yarn till now. I only can show it until clue 2, because it’s a mystery.

Klabauter Mystery from Wollklabauter aka Monika Eckert

Best wishes Utlinde :-)

Over and Out

No Gravatar

I can’t believe summer is over and fall is here already.  Although I did not meet all my lacey goals I’m happy with what I did get done - I’ve just been really bad with updating anything lately.  Sooo with that…

My most recently finished item is my Melon Shawl done in Dream In Color Baby.

melon shawl

and my long ago finished item is my trellis lace scarf.
trellis lace scarf

Then there is my man I was this close to finishing, but I ran out of yarn, did a freaky frogging and ended up at the half way mark again flutter scarf. Yes, we had a wee bit of trouble. It’s all straightened out now but she’s still waiting on the sidelines because my heart is just not in it.

flutter

I think one of the reasons this got to me so bad is that I also had a yarn shortage happen with the melon shawl. Thankfully, with the aide of Ravelry, I was able to get the few yards needed to finish that - I didn’t even try with the flutter scarf. I figured I would just rip back a bit and make it shorter, but I entered this black hole of still not enough. I must have ripped back at least three times, each time being more that the last, and still would come up short, and I only needed enough for a few rows. So darn frustrating. In a fit I went crazy to make sure I had enough, and I guess I over did it. I blame it on Olympic Knitting stress :)

My just started lace project is the lace ribbon scarf Not much done yet, but I’m sure enjoying it.
ribbon lace

  • Ribbon Lace scarf = 7 yards
  • Flutter scarf = 240 yards
  • Melon Shawl = 735 yards
  • Trellis lace =180 yards
  • Branching Out = 250 yards

For a total of 1,412 yards knitted. No prize winner by any means but I still had a ton of fun :)

One last FO

No Gravatar

I finished my Diamond Latttice scarf this morning.  Sadly, I will not be able to post a fo picture.  My mom put the camera someplace safe and now has no idea where it is.  Here’s a random picture of it earlier…

Anyway, 350 yrds down, bringing me to a grand total of either…(FOs only)

694 + 350 +375 = 1419 yards if you don’t want to count the doubled yarn as two strands and

1388 +350+375 = 2113 yards if you do

I’ve had a great deal of fun this summer, and I’m really impressed with everyone’s projects.  And I think you guys may have addicted me to this lace thing!  If I find the camera, I’ll take blocking pictures.   The projects I’ve seen this summer have encouraged me to jump right in, and I still can’t get over the fact that I can knit lace!  Me!  The woman who hasn’t even gotten around to a sweater yet, can’t cable, and has never done colorwork!
