As the Seasons of Lace Began, I was knitting Boing! A Little Nothing designed by Anne Hanson.
Boing was never my primary project. But she seemed to go along with me everywhere.
She went shopping with me as we bought summer clothes for the girls,
She drove across the country, taking in the sights of Western New York en route, adn then hung out with me in MidCoast Maine.
She traveled to Canada — twice, but failed to catch the camera’s attention either time.
She listened to the DaPonte String Quartet play glorious music at the Botanical Gardens in Boothbay Maine.
She enjoyed visits to three cities/towns in Vermont.
She went on a cruise on the Niagara River:
She went out to dinner in Dayton…
And now… vacation is over. The girls are back in school. This week they even have an almost full week of school (1/2 day Friday). There has been homework.
And Boing! is finished. She shed her needles
took a nice long soak,
stretched out in lace’s version of a bound yoga pose,
and stretched out all of her lovely lacey bits (no cramped muscles here!)
and is ready for the chill breezes that are likely to start blowing before we’re ready.
?I don’t really go on vacation, but I do go to DragonCon (biggest Sci-fi and Fantasy Con in the SE USA). It is crazy and bizarre and fun, and this year I decided to add to the bizarre by…
making random people hold my lace scarf in progress and taking their picture (ala the Yarn Harlot and her socks). I’ll probably have a ton of these by the end of the weekend on my flickr page, should you wish to see more, but I got two today that I thought were worth sharing with the group.
That’s a knitting rum-running pirate.
And that’s Professor Severus Snape (from the Harry Potter books).
Hope everyone else is enjoying their weekend as much as I am!
I’ve just got back from a week in Pembrokeshire and finished my Ravelympics wrap on the Friday just before we came home, so I’ve just squeezed in under the deadline! Here’s a poor attempt at a finished arty photo draped over a cliff, the others were far worse! It’s currently filling all of the single bed in the spare room blocking, I’ll post another photo when it’s not dark, but you have to promise not to point out the mistake/bit where it got caught that for the life of me I can’t pull out to look right! For my first ever completed lace I’d say it’s not too bad.Â
Pattern was Raspberry wrap, using 12mm needles and 4 balls of kidsilk haze in shade midnight.Â
This was part of my Ravelympics projects. I started it while on vacation in SoCal — but didn’t bring it to Disneyland. Sort of wished I did since the lines would have gone by lots quicker, but with the throng of humanity around…maybe not.
Although I intended (still intend) to knit the Candle Flame Shawl (for which I’ve had the pattern and yarn for more than two years), I’m stuck on knitting lace scarves (and my Monkey socks, off and on). Here are my first three completed projects–two are made with KnitPicks yarn from their “wine” lace sampler (my Clematis and my Delica), and one is made from a novelty yarn I bought when I flew to San Jose (my SnowWhite). I have yet another scarf from the sampler on my needles.
Clematis, the one I started to knit on my trip to San Jose:
I started and finished this shawl in less than 3 days! It helps that your plane is delayed for a really long time. A note to self: make sure to always bring knitting when traveling. This is of course swallowtail. Went away for a weekend and surprisingly managed to finish this.
It was as amazing a holiday as always, I’m going to write a bit more about it on my blog but I’ll post a picture here just to tempt you to pay me a visit!
However this is all about lace over here and I did manage to knit a little bit, not as much as I hoped, but I knew I needed to finish off some plain socks first. These socks are destined for my Mum for her birthday as they’re just her colours. Shhh, she doesn’t know yet though!
I thought I’d try alternative uses for socks, unfortunately Paddy didn’t seem to keen on his new ear warmer!
Here’s a close-up
Unfortunately the week had its casualties, after a whole week of packing my knitting carefully, I managed to snap not one, but two sets of needles in my rush to pack this morning to catch the flight!
The lace sock  will have to go on hold until I do another knit picks order from Get Knitted as I don’t have a spare in that size, I think I might try and get a metal pair to ensure I have no more accidents!
of some serious knitting! I went off on vacation with family last couple of weeks and all I got finished was one sock!!! They wanted me to join in all of the reindeer games so I couldn’t relax and knit at all
So, now I am back at home and have begun working on my Anniversary Mystery Shawl and that is coming along beautifully. I am just loving the way my Dream In Color Smooshy yarn knits - very sproingy and the colors are blending in together so well. I am using a different color for each clue so it is looking very pretty!!!
My Slow Bee 1 and 2 are in progress - a few clues behind, but that’s ok. Those two I am beading and right now I want something quicker to make me feel like I am accomplishing something. Plus, MS9 starts on July 12, so I have to get my yarn caked up for that.
All in all, I am glad I am back from vacation so I can get back to my knitting!
First, …. a wee heads up for those of you who may be dithering about joining this KAL (or know someone who has been dithering but hasn’t made it here yet): The sign ups are closing on Saturday at midnight (CST). Sign ups for the quanityt competitons are about to close as well!  So… there’s still time to join, but not a lot of time. C’mon (and tell your buds), there’re lots of prizes! So many, in fact, that I’m about to award another to celebrate the fact that they let me cross the border back into the USA yesterday.
Spending hours in the passenger seat gives you lots of time for knitting… and thanks to my wonderful DH, who drove 2/3 of the way from Damarascotta, Maine to St. John, New Brunswick — and all of the way back, I got to spend about ten hours in the passenger seat over the past week. I took full advantage, and worked on two lace projects…
…. making quite a bit of headway on Willow…
I think that heavily beaded bit might actually look like water. It would be better if there were room for two rounds of that, but I think I’ll have to cut things short and get on with the edging if I don’t want the thing to go past my knees….
Daedelus shows it’s progress a bit more. Perhaps the fact that Willow has well over 500 stitches per row now has something to do with that. Here’s the second feather section…
It looks rather sad there, all unblocked… but those feathers will be lovely when it’s done.
Here’s another shot with Daedelus blowing in the sea breeze..
