And now… the Prizes!

We know who won, but what do they get?

Luscious Yarn of course!

We have two generous donors to thank for the Judged Competition Prizes:

Chris at Briar Rose Fibers will be sending one hank of Angel Face (2500 luscious yards of 100% alpaca lace-weight) to each of two winners.  I have no pictures — because the winners get to choose their colorway from whatever is currently available (or… acquire any other yarn of equal value).

Tina at Blue Moon Fiber Arts sent three luscious prizes:

one skein of Geisha (70 Kid Mohair/ 20% Mulberry Silk/ 10% Nylon, 8oz. / 226g, 995yds / 910m)

(ya know… that not black color? it’s greener in real life (and on my other computer screen).

Anyway… they’ve also provide one skein of Laci (100% Extra Fine 80’s Merino, 8oz. / 226g, 1,750 yds / 1,600m)

AND one skein of Silk Thread II (100% silk, 3.5oz. / 99g, 1,250 yds / 1,143m).

We used our friend the random number generator to assign the prizes…. but I’ve also secretly polled the winners, without revealing the actual yarns, just in case there were strong preferences (like, say, mohair allergies).  In the end, it made no difference.

For her Brilliant Achievements in Conquering Lace Disasters, tinker  will receive a skein of AngelFace in her choice of colors (or, whatever yarn of equal value she wants).  We hope that she’ll post when it arrives!

For her Thorough Documentation of Lace on Vacation, ShadowDancer will receive the other skein of AngelFace!*

For her tour de force performance with a  Lace Extravaganza, lacefreak will receive a lovely skein of Blue Moon Fiber Arts Silk Thread II in Midsummer Night, because she plans to knit something thin for Winter of Lace..

For her artful presentation of Lace on Display, littlelena will receive a skein of Blue Moon Fiber Arts Laci in Blue Moonstone

For her brilliant and subtle marriage of yarn to pattern creating a perfect Lace Partnership, thislittlepiggyknits will receive a skein of Blue Moon Fiber Arts Geisha in Thraven (I love this colorway!)

To the winners …. please be sure I have your addresses so that I can get your prizes to you!!

Meanwhile…

Don’t go away!  Coming up, we have the Viewers’ Choice Award (for which the polls are still open — don’t forget to VOTE - there are over 125 of us eligible to vote for this… let’s not disenfranchise ourselves) and…..

MORE Raffle Prizes!!!

and

a chance to help us make this even more fun when Winter of Lace opens later this year… AND….

One final round of RANDOM JOY!

(and of course, any additional lace knitting you wish to post, and updates from our prize winners).

*and yes… that’s me getting some AngelFace.  I’m more than a little pleased about that result!)

My first shawl

No Gravatar

Believe it or not, this shawl has less than 350 yards of luscious wool/silk yarn - details of which can be seen at my Ravelry link.

Forest Canopy shawl I couldn’t believe it knitted up so quickly!  I will be tackling another shawl some day.

Some “man-lace” for my sister!

No Gravatar

Please don’t tell my sister that David describes his Martian Scarf as “man-lace.”  I gave it to her for her birthday (in August) and I think the tailored style will go well with many of her business suits.   I had originally planned on giving her the Green Column of Leaves - to go with her dark hair and green eyes!  But when I realized I’d never get it finished in time, I whipped up this scarf.  The tan unlabeled wool that was on sale for cheap surprised me (albeit I’m constantly surprised by SO MUCH in this newbie’s new world of knitting!) by turning into a soft, scrunchy, scarf.  My sister loved it.  But as the knitter, I was extremely pleased and proud of it.

Heartland lace shawl

No Gravatar

I finally finished my Heartland Lace Shawl by Evelyn Clark. I don’t know why, but once the Olympics were over it was a real slog to get this done. I knit this shawl as a tribute to my dad who passed away last May. He loved buffaloes and this is knit of 100% American Buffalo down which I hand spun. The pattern is supposed to be buffalo tracks and a river. This shawl is fairly large (78×34.5) and very warm. 609 yds.

Olympic Gold

No Gravatar

Who knew that someone so out of shape could win a gold medal.  In 16 days (I even finished a day ahead) I knit the Flirty Ruffles Shawl .  It’s the first time I’ve ever knit with 100% cashmere.  I’m hooked!

I literally bound off, stood up and had Honey take a picture.  There were needles lying on the couch smoking!!!

I’m not a monogamous knitter, so this is very uncharacteristic of me.  This would have taken me years to finish if I hadn’t had Ravelympics to urge me on!  Now I have to look around and see how many other lace projects I have going.  What shall I work on next???

Pictures at last–the skirt

No Gravatar

I’m very pleased with my skirt. It has a lovely drape and feel, and it goes well over at least two of my options. The skirt that looks white is actually pale pink, and the contrast is not so shocking in reality–the flash over does it a bit, so I made sure to take a photo over a black dress. (900 yards)

I’m Back!!

No Gravatar

I’m finally back!!  I didn’t fall off the face of the earth, but my computer did.  My internet died and it ended up being the blessed computer.  So I now have a wonderful new one!!  That being said….. it must have been my guardian angel frying that computer!!  I had enough time to finish my Ravelympics entry.

First,  I finished off my MS 9 with a crochet edging with tiny crystal beads.  It’s not perfect….. but I think it doesn’t look too bad.

Now, the really big knitting!!  I got to row 82 with my size 3 needles on my Lyra and decided if I wanted to finish in the same yarn I started with I’d go frogging!!  So I recast on with size 0’s and it really turned out well.  2000 yards and almost square!!

I think I like this picture since it shows how much blocking can turn an ugly bug into a butterfly!!
