First of all, let’s test this picture thing:

SwallowtailThis is an old picture of Swallowtail (that isn’t much farther along now than in this picture) but I didn’t want to go to the trouble of doing new pictures if they aren’t going to show up in the post.

I’ve been pretty diligently working on Icarus. So much so that I’m starting to hate it a little :) The problem is I pretty much knit in front of the tv. So one has to strike a balance between mindless and interesting for tv knitting. One problem with Icarus is that it’s easy (and boring) but also that I’m knitting it on smallish needles (3’s) and so it’s a little harder to knit while not looking which I can usually pull off.

I guess I’m just getting a case of the summer knitting blahs. Plus in looking at all the posts, there’s no way I’m winning for yardage. :) I am just not the fastest production knitter in the world. :)

Anyone else have knitting enuii?

Elizabeth

PS: ok, in the preview of this post I can’t see my picture. I put in the url to the Flickr page where this pic supposedly lives under the “add media” option. Isn’t that supposed to make it show up in the post? I’ve seen some of you putting pictures in your posts. *How* are you doing it now that we can’t upload? Help?!

Finally on the site!

I’ve been lurking until now, reading and admiring everyone’s posts. No more! Here’s my additions for Summer 08:

Springtime Shawl

The Springtime design by Marianne Kinzel. Started June 6th, so it was before the season officially began, but I am definitely working on it in earnest now! This is an easy design, but it does take a fair amount of attention until you get the hang of the pattern repeat. (This is the same pattern the Yarn Harlot did her wedding shawl as).  The yarn is Louisa Harding Angora Pure, which I am pretty sure is the reason the particulate count in my city is so high right now. This yarn is worse than a cattery in shedding season! However, it’s soft as all get-out, so I will wear a light colored shirt and just live with it.

Casablanca Stole

The Casablanca Stole KAL on Yahoo! is going well. I’ve taken a breather from clue #2- I’m just short of halfway through here. I can’t decide if I like where it is going or not, but the color seems to match the stitch variations, so I may keep it even if I don’t like the FO.

socks for veronik

Socks for Veronik from the holiday IK. The yarn is a new brand of sock yarn for me, of which the name eludes me at this minute. I’m actually quite farther down on this sock, having just turned the heel last night. The lace is a little tedious on such tiny needles, but it’s working out so far.

Other lace WIPs include Dem Fischer Sin Fru (which I will be knitting on until the day I die, I swear!), the Goddess Knits Anniversary shawl and a newly minted but unphotographed Odessa hat… small enough for a baby. It would appear that the gauge gnomes have been at it again with me!

Still At It!!

Thought I’d drop in with a progress report.  I’m on my 4th clue on the Anniversary Mystery Shawl.  I’m using a lace weight wool in the color “lettuce”.  Right now that’s all it looks like…… a head of wilted lettuce!!

I’m on the first of the Spring Mystery Stole.  I’ve frogged this 3 times. I used green first,  no,  blue fingering weight next, no, blue lace weight, not that one either!!  Then,  Knit Picks Shadow in Redwood Forest with green bead (looks like leaves budding out to me)……. just where I wanted to go!!!!  So after 3 frogs,  I got a prince!!

And I couldn’t resist putting in this,  my helper:

As you can see he’s helping me pin it out to take pics!! LOL!!

Getting started with Seasons of Lace

No Gravatar

Although I have a number of lace projects going (you can’t have just one), I finally have two that I actually started after June 21st so I feel I can include them in this event.

Please bear with me because I am not a blogger (even if I did software design for more than 20 years and have used the internet almost as long) since I tend to prefer my privacy.

About my two Sesons of Lace projects:

The first is a lace mohair scarf made using Karabella’s Lace Mohair in a very light pink. The pattern is also theirs (written by Nancie M. Wiseman) - Diagonal Knit Scarf - but in my usual way, I am modifying it slightly.  I had to start this a few times because there were some errors in the pattern and because I kept changing my mind as to what I wanted to do in the middle of the scarf (besides a straight knit).

The second is a quick project. I am using some laceweight Tencel yarn that I have to make a lace edging to embellish some hand towels. I am almost finished with the first strip and will make two before I sew the edgings onto the towels. The yarn is predominately green with some brown/beige, light blue, and red contrasts.

My other projects (all started before the start date) are large shawls which will get the majority of my time. I did put up pictures of the new projects but there are none of the other projects I am working on. I usually don’t take pictures until the project is finished.

Ready to Start - Finally!

No Gravatar

Okay, I’m revved up and ready to knit for a Season of Lace.  I wanted to be fair and start and a logical place in my knitting.  I’m currently working on the Slow Bee I lace shawl (I guess I’m slower than a Slow Bee though).  Anyway, I had 4 lines to go to finish Clue I and I thought it was only fair that I finish those lines before I throw my hat in the ring for this fun!  Here’s a picture of my shawl thus far.

Slow Bee I - Clue 1

I’m also doing the Mystic Light shawl, but it seems I haven’t worked on this one since I picked up the Slow Bee I bug.  But here’s the starting place for that one.

I think that’s it for now, but you never know with my disorganization!

Showing Off

No Gravatar

Okay, I’m a slow knitter and I have kids at home for the summer so I have no delusions of winning most yards knit or anything like that… but I do like to show off what I have done….

Here is the Tropicana lace scarf i started on my retreat last weekend with the Knitting Fairy.

Notice the stitch markers stuck in the lifeline?  this is when I learned that if you thread your lifeline thread into the hole in your KnitPicks options needles and knit a row to insert your lifeline, you need to remove your stitch markers first.

Almost too late…

No Gravatar

… but I heard about this yesterday and signed up last night. Whew! I guess I’m too late to join any competitions, but not to participate and be eligible for raffles?

I’m fairly new to lace, but I’ve just started the Goddess Knits Anniversary Shawl and finished clue #1 last night. I’m currently stalking the Yahoo group for Clue 2. LOL! I also have the Swallow Tail Shawl in my Ravelry queue and will be starting that soon. Laminaria and the Janet Lace Shawl also await yarn & cast-on.

I don’t know… I think I’m going to have to seek out additional shawls/mystery shawls as I can see a big lace addiction coming on…..

Here is the start of my Goddess Knits Anniversary Shawl, with beads. I used Rosemarie’s Belly Button cast-on. This is my second lace project ever, the first being the Luna Moth Shawl in my Ravelry projects.

Pulling together my projects

No Gravatar

Hi all! I was so excited to learn about this KAL, hopefully, I’ve slid in under the deadline! I have an extreme case of startitis when it comes to lace, so I am hoping to work through some of my WIPs for my summer of lace:

1. Hopefully my only start, which will be learning pieces for the Learn to Knit Lace class I’m teaching! No pics as yet, but I’m doing a series of linen washcloths.

2. Feather and fan comfort shawl I am doing in Noro cotton. (again, no pics)

3. Clapotis, using Blue Heron rayon metallic.

4. Peacock Feathers Shawl in Zephyr

5. Icarus, in Misti Alpaca

6. Mystery Shawl in Zephyr

Depending on my progress, I may also resurrect my Morning Glory Wrap and my Candleflame Shawl.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing everyones progress on the blog and in Ravelry!

intro

Hi all! I’m Kristine, and this is not my first foray into lace knitting. It is my first foray into the world of KAL’s, especially those comparable to the knitting Olympics (sadly, I was in law school and couldn’t participate).  It is also my first foray into Nieblings and knit doilies.

I’m still trying to pick out my first project, since my new Niebling aquisitions from ebay have not yet arrived from Germany. I have a few favorites from the online Russain pages and I also have some other lace patterns to consider from the “Knitted Lace” by Sonja Esbensen.  Lots of options!

Just saying hello

No Gravatar

I am earthchick from earthchicknits and am just coming by to say hello.  I have registered and am looking forward to casting on this weekend.  I am going to do Elizabeth Zimmermann’s Pi Shawl, with Malabrigo Laceweight, in Applewood.  I’ll be simultaneously trying to finish Sivia Harding’s Moonshadow for a fall wedding (I cast on for it awhile back, so it won’t count for Seasons of Lace, but I do hope to finish it sometime this summer), as well as a lacey summer top (Sunshine Top, which I also cast on earlier this spring).  I’m looking forward to the KAL!
