a little progress

No Gravatar

I have made a very little progress with my Twilight Lace Wrap. I don’t know what I was thinking with this pattern. Even though it does not have nupps the stars are made just like nupps with k5tog.

I’ve been asked about the yarn, it is Madil Kid Seta, 70% super kid mohair/30% silk. It has a beautiful sheen and I think it is much softer than Kidsilk Haze and other such yarns. It isn’t helping with knitting this wrap though. :)

So you can all sleep soundly in your beds tonight

I know you’ve all been worrying wether I’m going to run out of yarn after my post yesterday. Well I can put you out of your misery, this ball is like the magic porridge pot, it’s just not getting any smaller. I did the 5th repeat today, and I think there will even be enough for another repeat before I start the new skein. I’ve slung it round one shoulder unblocked and even unblocked it’s an ok length, could be longer but still wearable so I think when it’s blocked all will be well!

On your Marks, Get Set . . . . GO!

YAY! The day is finally here, and I know almost everyone is chomping at the bit to start.
Well . . . what are you waiting for? Its Summer, start your knitting!

I want to say thank you to everyone who has participated already. When ShadowDancer, PassingDownCrazy, and I started this we were afraid no one would come along, and now here we are with over 200 members, a whole host of generous sponsors and a pile of beautiful prizes. (psst. lets show them some love for being so generous!)

To those of you who have registered, but haven’t posted yet - Come on in, the water is fine! I can’t wait to see what you’ll show us.

We’ve had a few questions about some of the rules, so I thought I would try to do a little clarification, and post answers to some of our most common questions here.

I’ve registered for the competitions, do I have to register for the blog too?

YES! You need to register and post about your projects on the blog. We don’t need much, but a few pictures here and there and some text, so we can see that you are *actually* knitting something. :)
At minimum please show us something from when you start your project, and a finished project. Also remember the raffle prizes, Comptition Knitters are still eligible for raffle prizes, so posting about your projects makes it more likely you’ll win a prize.

Does the yardage I knit while knitting items for “Most Small Lace Items” qualifiy for the “Most Yardage” competition?

Nope - they need to be seperate, otherwise, someone might beable to easily sweep both categories.  You are more than welcome to knit for both competitions, but you can’t count one project for both competitions.

What is the deal with the “categories” and “tags”?

Categories are largely to help us mods track everyones progress. They help us make sure that we don’t miss giving someone a chance at a raffled prize for their eligable projects.  So please make sure that you choose the right posting category when you post about your project.

Tags are up to you and can be anything you want. They should be one word or a group of words; each tag should be seperated by a comma. Tags help other readers and search engines find your posts by subject.

I have registered for one of the Competitions - can I still win a raffle prize?

YES!! Two ways! 1) Just by posting on the blog you are eligible for any of the Random Joy prizes. 2) Assuming your competition knitting falls into any of the classes that we have set for the raffle prizes, just post about your project and mark it with the appropriate posting category and you are all set to go.

Anything else? Ask away - I’ll do my best to answer them. I

p.s. I am going to “sticky” this post for a few days and then it will float down the page like a regular post

“Mom Note”, Sponsor Update and lack of Lace

This is more like a fly by post… It starts with some pesky details on competitions, but swiftly gets to the more fun things .. .like sponsors and my inability to knit lace lately.

First, I wanted to remind you all that in order to submit things for the competitions, you have to include the url for the post with the picture of the thing in question. Someone attempted to register (already??? the game hasn’t even started yet!) a project for the Best Partnership of Yarn With Pattern competition, but did not include a url for the post. That entry (in addition to being disqualified for arriving before the Season Begins) won’t work, since we can’t tell what project is being nominated.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch.

I’m having a ball updating the prize page — I keep getting to do happy dances around the room knowing just how marvelous the prize vault is becoming. I also live in fear of what will happen to my visa bill if I succumb to the increasing number of sponsors’ offers. Have you looked lately? Really??

You can get delicious stitch markers from Hide & Sheep, gorgeous hand dyed yarn from ArtsyGal , Briar Rose, A Sheep of a Different Color and Wool Girl, patterns from Goddess Knits, and anything knitterly from Needleworks or Klose Knit. And once the season starts — there’s a buy three get one free deal just for us at Goodies Unlimited. Check out the sponsor page for the specifics and the discount codes. Heck, go often, as I seem to be unable to stop in my nigh-onto-maniacle quest for more treats for you!

When I’m not begging for prizes and discounts, I’m teaching my daughters to knit lace. But I seem to be making very little headway on my own lace knitting.

Boing! is progressing (it’s my mindless knitting now, how nuts is that), but more inches of the same lace doesn’t show much on pictures. Irfa’a is similarly not different enough for a new picture to show much.

Willow is requiring some additional charting fun, the wench, and so is in a paused state.

Oh well.

At least I’m making progress somewhere!
