A Few KAL Blog Stats

No Gravatar

Those of you who read us through a feed won’t see the new addition to blog, but we have added category links to the side bar.  The links allow you to go directly to a page that has the posts just from that category, they also show you the number of posts in each category - Check out that whopping 106 Casting On! posts!.

But here are a few less obvious stats:

We have 243 registered authors (including the 3 admins)
Of those 243 authors, 115 have posted to our blog,
Since opening we have written a total of 405 posts

The top poster has made 28 posts, and 49 of us have made 1 post

On 405 posts we have replied with 271 comments

Thanks to all of you who post and comment (cause nothing helps morale like getting a nice comment on your post!) We (the admins) are SO pleased you all decided to join us this summer!

Deadlines to Join … and Lace Progress

No Gravatar

First, …. a wee heads up for those of you who may be dithering about joining this KAL (or know someone who has been dithering but hasn’t made it here yet): The sign ups are closing on Saturday at midnight (CST).  Sign ups for the quanityt competitons are about to close as well!   So… there’s still time to join, but not a lot of time.  C’mon  (and tell your buds), there’re lots of prizes!  So many, in fact, that I’m about to award another to celebrate the fact that they let me cross the border back into the USA yesterday.

Spending hours in the passenger seat gives you lots of time for knitting… and thanks to my wonderful DH, who drove 2/3 of the way from Damarascotta, Maine to St. John, New Brunswick — and all of the way back, I got to spend about ten hours in the passenger seat over the past week.  I took full advantage, and worked on two lace projects…

…. making quite a bit of headway on Willow…

I think that heavily beaded bit might actually look like water. It would be better if there were room for two rounds of that, but I think I’ll have to cut things short and get on with the edging if I don’t want the thing to go past my knees….

Daedelus shows it’s progress a bit more.  Perhaps  the fact that Willow has well over 500 stitches per row now has something to do with that.  Here’s the second feather section…

It looks rather sad there, all unblocked… but those feathers will be lovely when it’s done.

Here’s another shot with Daedelus blowing in the sea breeze..P1050710

On your Marks, Get Set . . . . GO!

YAY! The day is finally here, and I know almost everyone is chomping at the bit to start.
Well . . . what are you waiting for? Its Summer, start your knitting!

I want to say thank you to everyone who has participated already. When ShadowDancer, PassingDownCrazy, and I started this we were afraid no one would come along, and now here we are with over 200 members, a whole host of generous sponsors and a pile of beautiful prizes. (psst. lets show them some love for being so generous!)

To those of you who have registered, but haven’t posted yet - Come on in, the water is fine! I can’t wait to see what you’ll show us.

We’ve had a few questions about some of the rules, so I thought I would try to do a little clarification, and post answers to some of our most common questions here.

I’ve registered for the competitions, do I have to register for the blog too?

YES! You need to register and post about your projects on the blog. We don’t need much, but a few pictures here and there and some text, so we can see that you are *actually* knitting something. :)
At minimum please show us something from when you start your project, and a finished project. Also remember the raffle prizes, Comptition Knitters are still eligible for raffle prizes, so posting about your projects makes it more likely you’ll win a prize.

Does the yardage I knit while knitting items for “Most Small Lace Items” qualifiy for the “Most Yardage” competition?

Nope - they need to be seperate, otherwise, someone might beable to easily sweep both categories.  You are more than welcome to knit for both competitions, but you can’t count one project for both competitions.

What is the deal with the “categories” and “tags”?

Categories are largely to help us mods track everyones progress. They help us make sure that we don’t miss giving someone a chance at a raffled prize for their eligable projects.  So please make sure that you choose the right posting category when you post about your project.

Tags are up to you and can be anything you want. They should be one word or a group of words; each tag should be seperated by a comma. Tags help other readers and search engines find your posts by subject.

I have registered for one of the Competitions - can I still win a raffle prize?

YES!! Two ways! 1) Just by posting on the blog you are eligible for any of the Random Joy prizes. 2) Assuming your competition knitting falls into any of the classes that we have set for the raffle prizes, just post about your project and mark it with the appropriate posting category and you are all set to go.

Anything else? Ask away - I’ll do my best to answer them. I

p.s. I am going to “sticky” this post for a few days and then it will float down the page like a regular post

Quandary - Generous Sponsors and Extra Prizes

No Gravatar

We’ve run into a bit of a quandary - and we’d like you to help us out.  We are running this KAL for you, and as much as possible we’d like you to be happy with how we handle things.

When we started this, we spent a LOT of time worrying about how we might get enough prizes for all the things we wanted to do.

This is no longer a problem :-D , we’ve ended up with a few MORE prizes than we need to all of the things we planned.  And now we are spending time trying to figure out the best way to award them.

So without much more ado - please let us know how you’d like us to handle our extra prizes by particpating in this poll:

How should we award the extra prizes?

    Other - I'll explain in a comment (3%, 1 Votes)
Extra Random Joy prizes - raffle dates determined by some wacky metric (47%, 15 Votes)
Extra Raffle Category Prizes - we would raffle extra prizes for the categories that have the highest memberships (25%, 8 Votes)
Runner Up Prizes for the Judged Contests (25%, 8 Votes)

    Total Voters: 32
