Ooh, look, shiny prizes

I give you my prize yarn.  The color’s actually pretty good for being taken at 10 pm indoors.

I plan to make a circular shawl out of some of it.  Anyone care to suggest patterns and/or color combos?  The balled yarn will be a scarf, which I will start tomorrow during the elections.

Oh, and everyone who’s American . . . → Read More: Ooh, look, shiny prizes Read more »

One last FO

I finished my Diamond Latttice scarf this morning.  Sadly, I will not be able to post a fo picture.  My mom put the camera someplace safe and now has no idea where it is.  Here’s a random picture of it earlier…

Anyway, 350 yrds down, bringing me to a grand total of either…(FOs only)

Ennui of the knitting kind

So, you know when you’ve got things on the needles and they aren’t going overly well, and other yarn and patterns come calling?

Yup, that’s where I am.  I cast on for the Half Square in Trinity Stitch shawl on Wed, and on Sunday came to a horrible conclusion.   This shawl’s worked from a side edge in, . . . → Read More: Ennui of the knitting kind Read more »

Lace at DragonCon

?I don’t really go on vacation, but I do go to DragonCon (biggest Sci-fi and Fantasy Con in the SE USA).  It is crazy and bizarre and fun, and this year I decided to add to the bizarre by…

making random people hold my lace scarf in progress and taking their picture (ala the Yarn Harlot and . . . → Read More: Lace at DragonCon Read more »

I have nothing to say, so look at the pretty pictures instead

Well, a week of being sick has surprisingly resulted in much knitting.  Mostly mindless.  Since I have nothing interesting to say, I give you pictures instead.  That would be my original pattern shawl, and yes, I know the lace is lost in the color.  I’m almost done with the second ball of Silky Malabrigo, with 2-3 . . . → Read More: I have nothing to say, so look at the pretty pictures instead Read more »

Slightly overambitious, just slightly

Does anyone else ever feel like they’ve gone completely and utterly insane?

I’ve been knitting since January, right?  I’ve finished a total of three lace pieces, two scarves and a shawl.  And now, what am I doing?

Designing my own lace triangular shawl and knitting it.  So far, I’ve gone through 160 yards of yarn, increased to 7 . . . → Read More: Slightly overambitious, just slightly Read more »

My first shawl (1388 yrds)

It is done (or rather it was done on Saturday, but I had to wait till I weighed it to know how much yarn I used).

That is 1388 yards of lace (according to the shipping scale at work and my l33t conversion skills).  I held the yarn double throughout, so mods, you may want to halve . . . → Read More: My first shawl (1388 yrds) Read more »

Ooh, pictures

So, I finally got around to taking (bad) pictures of my new WIPs.

First, the Diamond Lattice Scarf (from Victorian Lace Today, and I believe the pattern’s called something like Scarf with Open and Closed Diamonds).  I’m knitting this on size 5(US) instead of the recommended size 7s, so it’s far less lacy-looking than the original.

Then we . . . → Read More: Ooh, pictures Read more »

An Interesting Weekend

Okay, so this weekend was extremely interesting, knitting-wise.  First, I put my shawl stitches on waste yarn and pulled it off the needle.  It’s 68 inches across at the top.  68 inches! (and that’s the first time I’ve ever pulled a WIP off the needles to do that.  Talk about nerve-wracking)

Then I tried it on, and . . . → Read More: An Interesting Weekend Read more »

My first finished object and another cast-on

Important lesson learned.  It is really depressing to figure out how much you have left to knit on a triangular shawl started from the bottom point.  Sigh.  I have ~1400 square inches left to knit to get to a 4 ft long middle back (out of a total of ~1700) which means I have 82% of . . . → Read More: My first finished object and another cast-on Read more »
