Does anyone else have a love/hate relationship with lace?
While I am new to this, I find the following scenario being repeated over and over and over again:
Casting on with lace weight yarn for the first time, there was immediate intimidation. A few rows into the project, my confidence began to grow and I thought: “I love lace, isn’t it pretty?”
An hour later I noticed a mistake and ripped back to my life line swearing quietly: “I hate lace. I HATE lace. I freaking HATE lace!”
Two hours later the mistake was long forgotten and as the pattern developed I smiled and said to myself: “Oh, look how pretty. I love lace!”
Until, of course, I made another mistake and I then I was back to the “I hate lace” mantra.
I guess that makes me officially a schizophrenic would-be lace knitter who is still trying.
sigh
All of this has my husband asking: “You actually do this for fun?”
It’s really like looking in a mirror for me, reading your post LOL! I love lace and I hate when I have to correct my mistakes. Everyone thinks it can’t possibly be enjoyable to be doing this but we both know they are wrong. At least most of the time that is
The thrill I get once I block my lace wipes out most of my negative feelings and I’ve learned to live with a few of my mistakes. Your knitting looks wonderful so don’t give up the ghost!
Me! ME! MEEEEE!!!!
That is just like me! I so love the look lace has once it’s done… but the knitting is sometimes so frustrating!!
BUT
I’m determined to conquer it! I’ve found I have to have things in order in my life doe me to knit lace and for it to work. if there is too much stress or if there is a lot going on in my life, I have to put it away and go back to something easy for a while until things settle down.
It took me 3 months to knit the Blue Jeans Lace Leaf Shawl, which may see as easy lace… I love the results and it was so worth it…
So I press on….

just last night, my husband commented, “Is knitting just really really hard?”
