Off the Needles, Into the Dyepot?
I cast off my Forest Canopy shawl today. But i have had doubts about the colorway & yarn I chose, from the beginning. The yarn was a prize I won, two skeins of Socks that Rock mediumweight in the UnderToe colorway; lovely in itself, but as I knit, I didn’t like the striping effect of the dark green variegation. I thought perhaps the diamonds would break up the stripes, but not so much.

I asked my blog readers what they thought (perhaps I was just being overly sensitive to green stripes) and got a wide variety of opinions.

But then I got an email that clinched my decision (my opinion was already leaning towards overdyeing the shawl). Angels were needed for ISE 6, for several who had not received their scarf. I volunteered (having three scarves already started). My spoilee-in-need is a crocheter who expressed a secret longing for knitted lace shawls — and loves jewel tones, blues and purples! Forest Canopy did not have a designated recipient; well, now it does. And clearly it needs to be overdyed with blue, the way I was strongly considering anyway.
The finished shawl is in the dyepot even as I write this. Later this week, I’ll show you the dyed and blocked result — here’s hoping it turns out the way I envision it in my head!
