So it took me awhile to figure out how to turn the Laminaria shawl from knitty into a stole. It’s a complex pattern to start with, but I finally did figure out how to make it work and I made it through the first 8 rows. I’m working from the center out, so I started with a provisional cast on. It feels like a huge accomplishment just to have rewritten the pattern to make it a rectangle instead of a triangle! We’ll see how long this takes me.
wow! Now that´s something I would want to learn. I prefer stoles but all (or many) great patterns are for triangle shawls
I had the same problem. Mostly you have to figure out where your repeats begin and end, and make sure every increase has a decrease paired with it. Some of the triangle shawls are simple- if you just eliminate the yo’s at the beginning and in the middle, you would have a rectangle. I finally just made several copies of the pattern and cut them out, then taped them together. The challenge is that the shawls rely on the increases to get the pattern repeats to line up correctly. Studying the picture and swatching can help figure out how to recreate it. I think it helps to like puzzles.
